National Declutter Week 2012 to launch next spring
Following on the success of last year’s first ever National Declutter Week, sponsored by Storage.co.uk, we are preparing for a new national campaign next year. In order to chime with the traditional good habit of Spring Cleaning, our campaign will be moving seasons.
Run in October, last year’s National Declutter Week was successful beyond our hopes, winning considerable press and online coverage. For instance, an article appeared on the “All About You” website (part of the National Magazine Company, which publishes Good Housekeeping, HouseBeautiful, She, Country Living, and Prima), and in local papers across the nation, such The Express & Echo (Exeter), The Herald (Plymouth), The Star (Sheffield), The North-West Evening Mail and Worcester News.
Next year we will be promoting decluttering not just in the home, but in offices and businesses as well.
We will be aiming to raise even more awareness than last year, generate wider coverage and get more people to dispose of their clutter wisely.
Join National Declutter Week 2012 campaign now!
We want to hear from charities, storage companies and anyone who would like to volunteer or sponsor next year’s decluttering campaign.
Our National Declutter Week 2012 has three main aims:
- to promote the benefits of decluttering and a clutter-free life (to health and the sense of wellbeing – as well as to property values);
- to generate income for charities through donations of unwanted possessions to charity shops;
- to bring new business to the storage industry (for those things you can’t just get rid of, but don’t want in the house).
Your help to promote next year’s campaign is vital. We would love, in particular, to hear from any of the following groups:
- charities (especially those with high-street secondhand shops)
- businesses wanting to dispose of sellable goods
- car boot sales organisers
- self storage companies
- professional declutterers
Build on last year’s success
Last year, several major charities (such as the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK) helped to spread the word through their websites and by offering specialist advice, for instance on donating electrical goods.
Meanwhile, storage companies also took up the cause, mentioning National Declutter Week on their websites, blogs and publicity material. Safebox Self Storage, Bishops Move, and Steeles Removals (and storage) were among these.
Many self storage companies generously offer free storage space to charities. Last year, during National Declutter Week, InnerSpaces Self Storage on the Isle of Wight ran a joint promotion in partnership with the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. This can be a perfect way to combine neatly all three of the primary goals of National Declutter Week: encourage people to declutter and to donate sellable items to charity, and then use self storage to store them temporarily!
